Victorian-inspired Tea Gowns

Tea Gowns were worn during the Edwardian/Victorian era for entertaining guests at home. These dresses were elaborate and beautiful, but were made to be worn uncorseted so the lady of the house could parlay with her guests in comfort. I too wanted my own fancy potato sack to lounge in when my friends came over so I decided to make one myself.

The basic pattern is literally a sack and most of the work hours for this dress was spent handsewing the lace. I made a second one though I used a butterick pattern for the top and it didn’t turn out as nice, but I still wear it around the house.
