Peacock Skirt

Pattern: Circle Skirt

Fabric: Something I bought from Spotlight, its fairly heavy and there’s a lot of fabric. I can’t remember because this was the second thing I ever made, but the ruffles and other decorations were added later. Roughly 2m of green satin for the ruffles.

The skirt base itself is not that interesting — it’s a circle skirt but with some piecing because there was not enough fabric. I added zip tie boning to the hem because the skirt was heavy and was collapsing into my legs as I walked. I obviously refused to wear a petticoat so hot-gluing zip ties together was my only option. It worked very well.

In June I decided that I found the skirt was not interesting enough and decided to add the ruffled hem. I cut the longest width of satin, gathered it, pinned it to the skirt and then cut the length to achieve the dipped look. I should have been a bit more careful because the ruffles were too short in some areas but oh well. Also, I ended up just using fabric shears because I was way too lazy to hem the ruffles. Oops

I cut the peacock feathers from the satin with a template, sewed the edges and flipped them inside out. I am undecided if I actually like them but I have left them on for now.

I also but sewed on a more v-shaped waistband. I just sewed that over the original waistband because i think the satin one would be unable to support the sheer weight of the skirt.
