Like most countries, Singapore went into lockdown from April to June, though of course they had to call it something different (just call a spade a spade and not some STEM term guys). I did manage to do quite a lot of things during this period of time, though it was mostly out of self-preservation rather than a need to bE pRoDuCtIvE.
If there was one piece of advice I have to give for getting over this period l, it would be to spend as little time on social media as possible. It seems ironic — “but I can’t see my friends! I have to keep in touch with them somehow” — but you have whatsapp//messenger/ insta message for that. You don’t need to scroll mindlessly through peoples’ cultivated posts talking about #throwbacktomyholiday or #beingproductive. Social media isn’t real. And while I’ll admit I posted on social media and I do appreciate the comments I get, they are not entirely representative of my life. Sewing is a lot of time, work, sore fingers etc. Not to mention I was extremely unhappy at the time and sewing was the only thing that got me waking up every day. I’m still on les reseaux sociales, although I limit my time on it as much as possible (only having it on my iPad, with the notifications turned off) and I try to take complete breaks (deleting it off my iPad for a day or two). While going off social media didn’t cure my depression, irritable stomach or tone-deafness, it has made me less jealous and angry.
Anyway, I thought I’d share some more photos taken during the little video shoot at the beginning. My video editing skills are rusty, though they are improving. I’m also really enjoying watching the end product, which is strange for someone who avoids mirrors at all cost. I drew the storyboard and all but it was my amazing mother who was the eye behind the lens, and if you enjoyed the photos and the video it’s in large part due to her. I shot and pretty much edited the entire video in one day, mostly because I wasn’t in the mood to do anything else (in a bad way, but oh well). Strax was the star of the show really.
Anyway, enough of my ranting, here’s the video:
