Matador off-duty

Fabric used: red shantung (approx 2m for bolero)

Notions used: gold braid (I honestly can’t remember how much braid I bought but I ran out of the muted gold and had to buy a more shiny gold)

Pattern used: simplicity 8250

You’re probably sick of seeing the red skirt at this point and frankly so am I. But I did get around to finishing up all the red shantung with this bolero. To be honest there wasn’t enough left and the sleeves could have been a little longer…but oh well.

I didn’t realise how much the gold trim would make it look like a matador outfit, and the shine of the shantung sure doesn’t help. But I still like it, and I think the hat really pulls the outfit together.

I’ve made the bolero before and while that attempt was absolutely shoddy, I’m proud to say that this one is an improvement. It didn’t take too long, and though I did film a video I think I’ll post it in November because I don’t have the time to edit at the moment.

The photos were taken by my lovely friend Bernice at the Raffles Hotel, which is probably the best place to take photos here for the Victorian/Edwardian vibe. It opened in 1887 and I’m glad that even after the numerous restorations (I think the last was a year ago) it’s still retained it’s pre-modern charm.
